Angelina Jolie, original name Angelina Jolie Voight, (born June 4, 1975, Los Angeles, California, U.S.), American actor and director, well-known for her sex appeal and edginess as well as for her humanitarian work. She won an Academy Award for her supporting character as a mental patient in Girl, Interrupted (1999).Jolie, daughter of actor Jon Voight, spent much of her early years in New York before relocating to Los Angeles at age 11. After going to the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute two years, she then took up a place at Beverly Hills High School. She then studied drama at New York University. Also, she was an actor in theater productions. In later years, she did modeling and appeared in music videos. Jolie met Jonny Lee Miller (1996, divorced 1999).). The film did not find an audience, which was the case for a series of subsequent movies. Jolie was the segregationist spouse of Alabama's governor, garnering plenty of attention in 1997. She later received an Golden Globe Award. In the HBO film Gia Jolie played a supermodel suffering from drug addiction. She was awarded multiple distinctions, including an award of the Golden Globe Award, and Screen Actors Guild Award. She appeared alongside John Cusack in Pushing Tin in 1999. The following year, she was married to Thornton (divorced in 2003). In Gone in Sixty Seconds ((2000)) she played the role of Nicole Cage's girlfriend. Later, she switched to an accent that resembled a British accent, and learned street fighting and kickboxing to play the title roles in Lara Croft Tomb Raider (2003) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider : The Cradle of Life (2004). In 2004, she played the mother of Alexander the Great in Oliver Stone's Alexander and also starred opposite Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law in Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, a sci-fi thriller set in the 1930s of New York City. Both films were box-office failures however, Jolie had a smash in Mr. & Mrs. Smith (2005) in which she played an assassin disguised as a normal housewife; while making the film she came across Brad Pitt, who became her co-star.
